Caring for the Caregiver with Hypnosis
There are two types of caregivers. The first category is those who are paid for providing their services. This group covers surgeons to CNAs. The second category of caregivers is family members and friends. The one element that these people have in common is that they are all under a very high level of stress. When conducting sessions designed for caring for the caregiver we have found that there have been times when a single session was able to get the caregivers back on track. There are also cases where a client went through a dozen private sessions. The normal amount of sessions needed to rejuvenate the client is three to five sessions. There are also those who simply find additional sessions are a helpful way to maintain control over their mind and body.
When asking a hypnotist what is the best hypnotic induction, they repeat what they have heard over the years. Their answer is “Whatever one works the best.” The same is true when the hypnotist is asked what the best technique to use is. They reply with “The one that works the best.” The correct answer is the induction that the hypnotist likes the most. It is the same answer when you ask what the best technique is. The correct answer is the one that the hypnotist likes the most.
In this course we will be covering five specific sessions for the caregivers. In this course we will cover the five session in a specific order; however, the hypnotist might prefer conducting session number four as the second session. They may also decide to use techniques that were designed for the cancer client on a different type of client.
On pages 2 and 3 of the workbook you will find a questionnaire for both the license professional and the family member or friend that is providing care. It has been proven over the years that it works best for the hypnotist to ask the questions during their preliminary session. We may be tempted to have the client fill in the form prior to the start of the session. Having the client complete the questioner while in the waiting room is also a bad idea. We are dealing with a caregiver who is already under a high level of stress. Don’t add to that stress level by requesting the client to complete another task. The reason the for the hypnotist to ask the ten question helps to create rapport. In addition to rapport you will create a plan of action for the sessions that you will be conducting. The time required for the completion of the form is between five and ten minutes. The length of time will change based on the amount of follow up questions that are ask by the hypnotist.
